Getting started
Where should a 100β250 person business start with AI?
Start with the work and business priorities. Identify where time, cost, rework or lost revenue matter most, then assess where AI could help. Estimate the potential value, make assumptions visible and choose a small number of opportunities to test. The free AI Value Map gives leadership a structured starting point.
Get the AI Value Map βWhy might AI investment not be paying off?
Possible reasons include low use, unclear success measures, weak ownership or benefits that have not translated into financial value. Buying licences does not establish a return. Look at specific workflows, compare outcomes with the starting position and include the costs of implementation and ongoing use.
Explore Make AI Count βIs Microsoft Copilot worth it for the business?
That depends on the work it supports, actual use, costs and measurable outcomes. Assess defined tasks with the people doing them, then compare the benefit with the cost. A licence count or usage report alone cannot show whether the investment is worthwhile.
Start with the AI Value Map βWhat does a useful AI strategy look like?
A prioritised view of where AI could support business goals, the estimated value and assumptions for each opportunity, clear ownership and a practical roadmap. The team also needs a repeatable way to assess new opportunities as priorities change.

How should AI value be assessed?
Identify what would change, how it will be measured and which costs are involved. Make the assumptions visible and distinguish an estimate from a measured result. Include implementation and running costs, avoid counting the same benefit twice, and involve someone able to challenge the numbers.
Explore the AI Value Map βAre saved hours the same as financial savings?
No. Time saved creates capacity. It becomes financial value when the business uses that capacity for productive or billable work, avoids hiring, reduces overtime or removes cost. For a business billing by time, faster delivery can reduce billed hours unless the freed time is used elsewhere.
How should AI opportunities be prioritised?
Consider estimated value alongside effort, readiness, available evidence and ownership. A large estimated opportunity may still be a poor first choice if the data, skills or process are not ready. The AI Value Map ranks opportunities by estimated value; the final business decision should consider these other factors too.
Get a starting shortlist βDoes the sceptical-FD test mean finance has approved the figures?
No. It challenges assumptions and highlights missing evidence. It is an AI-generated pressure-test, not review or approval by your finance director. Decisions and sign-off remain with the business.
Should the business use consultants or build capability in-house?
The right balance depends on the businessβs needs. Specialist analysis or technical delivery may require outside support. Make AI Count focuses on teaching the team to find, value and own opportunities so that the method and capability stay inside the business.
Explore Make AI Count βThe AI Value Map
What is the AI Value Map?
A free prompt delivered by email. Run it in Copilot, Claude or ChatGPT and answer seven questions about the business. It produces up to five ranked opportunities, estimated annual value ranges with workings, a check on existing AI spend, finance questions, suggested next-12-week outcomes and a short board summary. Allow about ten minutes.
Map my AI value βAre the estimates guaranteed?
No. They are starting estimates based on the answers and assumptions used. Check the arithmetic, replace assumed inputs with real data and review possible overlap between opportunities. None of the figures has been tested by finance simply because the map has produced it.
How is the map used, and where do business answers go?
Get the prompt by email, then paste it into an approved AI tool. Enter business answers in that tool, not the website sign-up form. Data handling depends on the chosen provider, account and company settings. Follow company policy and avoid entering client names or personal details.
What does typing FD 1 do?
It asks the AI to pressure-test opportunity 1 in the ranked table as a sceptical finance director: what it would challenge, what evidence would help and a realistic planning range. Use a different number to challenge another opportunity.
Is a sales call needed to get the map?
No. The map is free and is delivered by email after sign-up. Run the prompt in the AI tool the business already uses. Any occasional marketing emails are separate from delivery of the requested map.

How does Make AI Count work?
Make AI Count is an eight-week live online programme. The team applies the Find, Value, Own method to real opportunities in its own business: identify where AI could create value, assess the numbers and assumptions, then prioritise opportunities and assign ownership. Your people do the work and learn the skills to keep doing it themselves.
Explore Make AI Count βWho is it for?
UK companies of 100β250 people, particularly where AI activity or spending is growing but its business value is unclear. Managing directors, operations leaders and finance directors can help shape priorities.
Discuss your team βWho should take part?
People close to the work and someone able to challenge the numbers are useful starting points. Leadership involvement helps connect opportunities to business priorities. The final team mix and participation requirements will be discussed before enrolment.
Discuss participation βDo participants need technical AI expertise?
The programme focuses on business opportunities, value and ownership rather than tool features alone. The skills required and the appropriate participant mix will be discussed before enrolment.
Discuss your team βHow much time does the programme take?
The programme runs over eight weeks. The session timetable, weekly workload and participation requirements have not yet been confirmed publicly. These details will be provided before enrolment so the business can assess the commitment.
Ask about the timetable βWhat does the business leave with?
A costed shortlist of AI opportunities with estimates and assumptions, a prioritised roadmap with ownership, and the capability to keep finding and valuing opportunities in-house. Financial results depend on what the business implements and measures; estimated savings are not guaranteed.
Explore the outcomes βWho created the programme?
Charlotte Fuller, founder of The Achievement Algorithm, drawing on over a decade of business, digital and AI strategy experience, including strategy consulting at Avanade, the Accenture and Microsoft company, and work with major global brands.
About βWhat does it cost, and when does the next cohort start?
